Day 04
Arrived in Kyoto. Dinner at Nishiki Market.
Day 05
1. Fushimi Inari Shrine
Our early start took us to Fushimi Inari Shrine, southeast of Kyoto, where we intended to spend the first half of the day. The lower slopes were bustling, but the higher we climbed, the more tranquil the atmosphere became. The true experience at Fushimi Inari lies in the ascent itself, not simply reaching the small shrine at the top. Numerous teahouses offer opportunities to pause and savor treats like hot tea or matcha ice cream; I opted for a combination of matcha and vanilla. We enjoyed a leisurely descent, and after exploring the street food stalls near the exit, we enjoyed a delicious udon meal at a nearby restaurant.
2. Higashiyama Jisho-ji (Silver pavilion)
Our journey to the Higashiyama Jisho-ji, northeast of Kyoto, involved both a train and a bus. The temple grounds were quiet and beautiful.
3. Kinkaku-ji (Golden pavilion)
Our journey continued by bus to Kinkaku-ji, located northwest of Kyoto. We were once again met with the beauty of a traditional Japanese garden.
4. Gion Night Walk
We then made our way to Gion, and with some time before the start of our guided tour, we decided to enjoy a grilled unagi dinner.
At the Yasaka Jinja Nishiromon Gate, we met our tour guide and were delighted to discover we were the only ones, effectively having a private tour.
